Sometimes it's a challenge for Project Managers to find balance in their professional lives. Presented by Tracy Sterling M.Ed. of Sterling Performance Solutions, this session is especially for non-project managers who still have to manage projects in addition to their “real” job.

Most people who manage projects do not have the title of Project Manager and have had no training in project management. This session will share with them some tools that project managers use.

The TopicsThe Scope, The Work, and The Deadline, are aligned with A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) -- 2008, 4th Edition, Project Management Institute, Inc., 2008. By the end of this session, you will know how to:

  • Set scope boundaries to establish what is to be included in a project and what is not
  • Prevent project scope creep (and therefore budget and timeline creep) by using an effective change control process
  • Divide the work of the project and create personal accountability using a Work Breakdown Structure
  • Manage project customer expectations by validating the project deadline prior to starting work on the project, and resetting the deadline if necessary
  • Use contingency time to protect critical path deliverables and avoid missed deadlines
