Message from Dayton GIG Leader, Bob Riess

I wanted to thank everyone for attending the June Dayton ATD Group session at the UD Center for Leadership, and a special thanks to Kym Yahn who shared a fantastic best practice from Sinclair Workforce Development on creating icebreakers that sizzle.

To recap the meeting – if you attended the June meeting, contact for the worksheet Kym provided to help us all create effective icebreakers. Some of the AH-HA’s you took away from the session included:

  • The icebreaker is part of the learning and training
  • Use the tall tale and mascot ideas
  • Use the power of brainstorming
  • Worksheets can be an effective icebreaker tool

We will have our next breakfast meeting once again at the UD Center for Leadership on September 2nd and will develop a tool using a best practice from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Registration details can be found above.

Thanks again and hope you had a great 4th of July weekend.

Recap of the June 8 Coaching SIG Meeting, Achieving a Positive Business Impact Starts With Coaching

Whether you’re a manager trying to develop your people or trying to develop yourself and build a career, you need to know that one of the key ways you can have a positive impact on the business is by operating more as a “Coach” than a “Manager.”

A study conducted by Bersin & Associates showed that organizations with leaders who coach effectively and frequently improve their business results by 21 percent as compared to those who never coach.
