Membership in one entity (either National or Local) does not mean membership in the other. However, purchasing a National membership can help your local chapter through the Chapter Incentive Program (ChIP). ChIP is a revenue-sharing program that allows local members to support their local chapter.

When you join ATD or renew your membership using our Chapter Source Code (CH3044), ATD donates a share of the sale to our chapter. The same is true if you buy an ATD book or attend a conference. I've been a member since September of 2014.

What interested you in joining the organization – local and national?

I was finishing my degree at Xavier and wanted another way to stay connected to industry trends along with networking with professionals in the field, so I joined GCATD. At first I joined ATD but recognized the value of having a local network, so I joined GCATD when I attended my first local conference.

What value do you get from your membership – local and national?

Each membership provides a different value. At the national level, I am able to learn about new trends and best practices while hearing how others are providing talent development activities. However, the local membership provides a means of connecting with others in our neighborhoods and a way to collaborate and learn from each other differently than at the national level. Both give a way to learn about learning --- just differently.

What interested you in becoming a volunteer with the Membership committee?

It is important to give back as it helps build our field along with provide additional learning opportunities. We are so fortuntate to have such strong talent development professionals in our area, and what better way to connect, learn and help others learn than being a part of the Membership committee. Building our local membership helps provide great opportunity for all of us.
